Why is ICOTS Timing Out More Quickly?

Q: ICOTS is timing out much more quickly than it used to. Why is that?

A: Appriss launched part one of a user security release in ICOTS on 10/8/14 in order to keep ICOTS in compliance with CJIS security standards, which they are contractually obligated to do. These changes are part of the new CJIS security standards policy drafted by the FBI.

One of the security changes was reducing the idle timeout period. Previously, the timeout period was 2 hours. The new timeout period is 30 minutes. This is true for any browser tab with ICOTS loaded. If any tab logged into ICOTS is idle for more than 30 minutes, then your entire ICOTS session will automatically be timed out.
